Have you been turned down for health insurance?
(or think that you have?)
First, be sure you were actually declined. Second, get on a temporary short term policy now (unless you are eligible for COBRA which will give you options). This gives you some time for your search.
In Arizona, no agent can write an actual policy for you, nor can they turn you down. Only the insurance company's underwriters can decline or accept you. Make sure to check the "scams" section.
STATEMENT - But wait a minute, my insurance agent told me I couldn't get insurance due to my medical condition - that isn't true?
ANSWER - Many insurance agents don't want to spend any time with you if they think they won't get any commission, they'll just tell you you're uninsurable instead of trying to find a policy for you. The only time you've actually been turned down is if you get a letter in writing informing you such. We'll work with you to discover options, give us a call.
STATEMENT - OK, the insurance company turned me down, now what?
ANSWER - Every insurance company, and every underwriting department of every insurance company, is different. Each company has different guidelines that they use to determine whether to decline you or not. Just because one company declined your application does not mean that another company will. A good independent agent should be able to guide you to another company that may be more lenient toward your condition.
